We might argue about what is appropriate sleepwear: classic striped pajamas, sexy nightie, fleece onesie, but we can all agree on certain inappropriate sleepwear. UK retailer Next was recently in the news for producing a onesie that looked like it included a print of a penis on it. The offending item was swiftly removed following customer complaints. Now international retailer Zara, part of the largest Spanish retail group, has gotten into trouble for producing a kid’s T shirt or pajama top that looks like it might be based on a concentration camp uniform. The top features royal blue and white horizontal stripes with a six-pointed yellow star on the left which includes with the word “sheriff” just visible. After receiving several customer complaints the retailer quickly apologized and said the garments would be removed from stores and destroyed.
“We honestly apologize, it was inspired by the sheriff’s stars from the Classic Western films and is no longer in our stores,” Zara said in a statement according to International Business Times. This garment was aimed at three year olds – can’t imagine there are too many fans of classic westerns in that demographic. Anyway the moral of the story is, if you want striped pajamas stick to our Retro funzee guaranteed to limit the number of people you will offend.
